1860 Slave Schedule Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory

The
1860 Arkansas Slave Schedule for the Choctaw Nation shows some similar
characteristics as those in the Chickasaw Nation. The main difference being
there were more enslaved people in the Choctaw Nation and quite a bit more who
were enumerated as mulatto.
There were approximately 16 counties in the Choctaw Nation and
in 1860 the approximate enslaved population was given as 2217 individuals.
Apparently miscegenation in the Choctaw Nation was more profound
than in the Chickasaw Nation. Based on the figures of the 1860 Arkansas Slave
Schedules approximately 2 % of the enslaved population, 589 individuals were
deemed to be mulatto.
Granted we don't know exactly who were the parents of these
people until an analysis is done on the Dawes enrollment cards but it is safe to
assume that many of the individuals who were a part of Equity
Case 7071 had a substantial claim of Choctaw ancestry as supported by
the anecdotal evidence in the 1860 census.
