Senate Executive Document 82
Senate Misc. Doc. 118

The study and research of the Congressional Record is vital in understanding the issues confronting the "Freedmen" as they transitioned from enslavement to "emancipation." In the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations they were quite politically active in asserting their rights to citizenship in the nations of their birth and much of what they did in this effort is documented within the pages of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Through the efforts of Terry Ligon and with the assistance of various researchers, we have obtained much of what was recorded as a matter of custom in both branches of "Congress."

The length and breadth of these documents preclude us from posting them on the site in their entirety, but we have endeavored to make these records available to the public for a nominal fee. However there are excerpted portions of the records for you to view and determine which of the their importance to the individual researcher.
