Part of preserving the obituaries of Indian Territory Freedmen is the preservation of the cemetery's in which they are interred. With the neglect and vandalism that can occur to these sacred sights it is an urgent need we identify and seek protection for these historic sites.

Like many cemeteries established in Indian Territory these sites should be designated as Historic by the state and local governments to insure the history of "blacks" who were some of the "First Families of Indian Territory" are protected from vandalism and neglect.

Is is abundantly clear the history of Indian Territory is not complete without the inclusion of the formerly enslaved people of African and African-Native descent.

It is the intent of this page to encourage others to contribute to this effort by working with other freedmen and tribal members who recognize the value of preserving all of our history.
