Terry has been performing extensive research on the history and genealogy of his Choctaw and Chickasaw Freedmen ancestors since 1989. He is presently researching the lawsuit known as Bettie Ligon et al., vs. Douglass H. Johnston, et al., Green McCurtain, et al., and James R. Garfield, Secretary of the Interior April 13, 1907 . The suit is commonly referred to as Equity Case 7071 and was filed to have the names of approximately 1600 individuals seeking a transfer from the Dawes Freedmen Roll to the Choctaw or Chickasaw “by blood” roll.

In addition to this research, Terry has compiled an index of the Oklahoma Historical Society’s newspaper index listing articles concerning events occurring from approximately 1872 to 1930 involving the freedmen of Indian Territory and the Five Civilized Tribes.

Over the past three years Terry has conducted extensive research on the Congressional Record and the various documents that pertain to the activities of the Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes and their interactions with the United States and the Five Civilized Tribes.
