THE ENSLAVERS

As genealogist who research people of African or African-Native descent we realize how difficult it is to break through the wall of 1870 and locate our ancestors. Much of this is based on the fact that the census records prior to that year generally did not indicate names of households for anyone of African descent who was not a "Free Person of Color"  or formerly enslaved.

As genealogist we also know that too break through this brick wall we must research the records of the last enslaver if we hope to be successful in our research.

This is the basis for publishing and compiling this database. The data is broken down in several parts. First we constructed the data alphabetically,  according to the name of the ancestor that appears on a Dawes Allotment/Enrollment Card (M1186.)

Secondly, we constructed a database with the enslavers in alphabetical order and linked them to the name that appears in the Freedmen record.

We try to be as accurate with the information as possible and realize errors can occur. We count on volunteers to provide this information and take no responsibility for those errors. If you feel something requires our attention don't hesitate to send a message to the Choctaw-Chickasaw Freedmen Project© and we will endeavor to have the matter looked into.
