| ENSLAVER-WillisWillis, James Hampton- white resident among the Chickasaws, was born In Kentucky In 1811, the son of James Willis and the grandson of Britton Willis (1758-1844), a Revolutionary War veteran from South Carolina. He married Amanda Love (born 1820). Sometime In the late summer of 1837 he bought S27 T4 R2W In Marshall County, Mississippi, from Henry Love (1). About the same time he and Amanda sold, 11, 12, 13, and the N½ S23 T2 R13W to Love (2). On October 16, 1837, he and Amanda sold S27 T4 R2W to Love (3). James was scheduled to meet Benjamin Love for the journey west on October 15, 1841--to take 21 members of his family and slaves, but did not go. He did remove in December, 1842, his family Consisting of one male under 10, two males 10-25, one male 25-50, two females under 10, and one female 25—50. He also took 13 slaves (4). The 1847 census shows him as a white man, head of a household that included two males under 18, one male over 18, four females under 16, and one female over 16. He then owned 18 slaves. Amanda died May 6, 1856. James then married her sister, Elvira (November 3, 16Z1.Augut g, 1894). He died near Madill on April 21, 1861. He was the father of James Henry (married Catherine Reynolds), Caroline (born 1838; married William H. Bourland, a Selby, and John Stubbleffeld), Mary E. (1840—1894; married Willis Dickerson), Charlotte (1842-1915; married Edmund McLaughlin and William N. Vann), Ellen Nora (1844—1914; married Henry Colbert, Jonathan E. Christian, and Rance Moore), Raleigh Britton (1853—1933; married Margaret Page), William P. (1854-1877; married Articia Page), Holmes (1857—1914; married Viola Gibson), and Amelia (1860—1919; married Jesse Hayes). His widow, Elvira, married Dr. William P. Worthington (1818-1894) (5)
